Black Chrome Plating

Black chrome plating is a chrome plating that has been chemically altered to produce a black color. Chrome is applied by electroplating over a nickel (or copper) undercoat, such as an automobile rim or motorcycle exhaust pipe.

Black chrome plating has a unique appearance that showcases not only the high reflectivity of shiny chrome, but also a depth not seen in other polished surfaces. Black chrome plating provides some protection against corrosion due to the need for an undercoat consisting largely of copper or nickel plating.
